How to ID Your Mac
First you'll need to find your Mac's serial number by clicking on the "Apple Logo" in the top left corner of the screen on your Mac's desktop.
Then click on "About This Mac" button
Next click on the "More Info" button.
Now copy or write down the serial number to enter in Apple's Check Your Service and Support Coverage tool. In addition to telling you your Mac's warranty coverage, the tool will also tell you what type and the model release year (which is how Macs are identified, not by when they were purchsed or produced).
